Macclesfield Town won promotion to the Football League in 1997 on the second attempt and have enjoyed continuous membership at this level for the past 12 years. Their trials, tribulations and triumphs are narrated with emphasis on events on the field of play, although the more dramatic off the field happenings have been included. Competing as one of the smallest clubs has not always been easy, but there have been many inspired moments with a single season in the former Nationwide Second Division, victories over higher league opposition in Cup competitions, Play-off semi-finalists one season and as losing Northern Area Finalists in the Football League Trophy. Many younger players have developed their skills at the club with some moving on to play in a higher level whilst more experienced players have become legends in their own time.
