In just their second season back in the top flight, Liverpool FC beat off competition from Spurs, Everton and Manchester United to win the Football League Championship. Using a squad mainly composed of local players who had come through the ranks with a handful of big name signings, Bill Shankly moulded them into a team that powered their way to the championship, hitting six goals on four occasions at Anfield. This book commemorates the 50th anniversary of that title win, which happened in a season that the city of Liverpool became the most talked about place in the world thanks to The Beatles and other bands of the Merseysound. As the Kop honoured the local bands by singing their songs, You'll Never Walk Alone, which was number one in November 1963, became the crowd favourite and remains so today. 1963-64 was a season that was played out against the backdrop of some significant worldwide events, including the Profumo Affair, assassination of John F Kennedy and the Great Train Robbery. In addition to the games these events are recalled in this book, which is Steven Horton's third in relation to the history of Liverpool FC.
