This is a beautiful colourised photo which shows Newcastle United legend Jimmy Lawrence

who played for the Magpies between 1904-1922.  He holds the all time record for first team appearances,

with the goalkeeper appearing between the sticks for United a total of 496 times in the Football League and FA Cup.

He also made 11 more appearances in other games.

Although a Goalkeeper Jimmy is pictured wearing the striped shirt, which was the law until the end of the 1909/10 season.

For the 1910/11 season all keepers had to wear a plain shirt which was different to their club shirt.
